Wedding Favors That Avoid The Junk Drawer

How do you prevent your wedding favors from ending up in the junk drawer? Make sure it is interactive, usable, or edible. Favors should represent something you are known to be passionate about or in some way be reminiscent of your wedding day. Consider shopping local for your favors, especially if you have a lot of guests flying in from elsewhere, gifting a local favor will have more meaning. You do you when it comes to the favors you gift but if you want them to be appreciated and used, take my advice.

Interactive Favors

Give your guests an activity to partake in apart from hitting the dance floor. Guests will love the addition of a photo booth at your wedding. The Photo Lab Bar is a great option for high-quality photos with a variety of fun props and backdrops. Included is a professionally designed template for your guests to enjoy unlimited 4x6 prints. Not only will your guests have a keepsake to go home with, you will also receive the entire digital gallery with the option to add on your own guest book.

Lottery Tickets

A cute sachet, a shiny penny minted in the year of your wedding, a lottery ticket, and a note of thanks and luck would make a great wedding day send-off. The bouquet and garter don't have to be the only good omen objects at your wedding!

Usable Favors

A "usable" favor is a great way of gifting something tangible at a low cost that won't end up in the junk drawer. When I say "usable" I mean a favor that will run out naturally. Here are a few ideas, but you can take this concept in any direction you choose!

Sage Smudge Bundle

Smudging with sage is a part of many cultures and customs. Smudging with sage drives away any negative energy and invites in only positive vibrations. Hand-tied bundles with a note would make a great wedding favor. Traditionally, sage bundles are accompanied by an abalone shell, to really up your game gift an abalone shell along with the sage bundle. Contact me to help source hand tied sage bundles and abalone shells.

Pinecone Firestarters

The perfect favor for a mountain wedding! These pinecone firestarters can be arranged in baskets for guests to grab at the conclusion of the event as traditional favors would be given out. I recently did a wedding at Lynn Britt Cabin on Snowmass and these looked great accompanying the place cards at each place setting.

Custom Candles and Matches

Custom candles offer you a great way to say thank you, personalize with your wedding details, but not gift something your guests feel obligated to hang on to. Etsy offers an array of custom candle and matchbox options. Also, consider hiring Hollie with Be Still Calligraphy to customize tags or containers for you.

Bath Salts or Soap

After a night of dancing your guests may be needing a little bit of luxurious self-care! Etsy will be your go-to source of customized self-care products. If you are looking for a local vendor, contact Canyon Spirit Soapworks.

Seed Packets

Let love grow! Customize seed packets for your guests and allow them to let the love grow!

Sending your guests off with something edible will not only provide them with a midnight snack but is a way of giving them something that will be appreciated and doesn't require them to make space to hang on to.

Candy Bar

Order some cute candy boxes or bags with your insignia and allow guests to choose their candy of choice as a party favor. Frankie's Dessert Carts can provide an adorable cart to set up this station.

Midnight Snack

After a big meal, dessert may be hard for some guests to fit. Provide them with some "doggie bags" to grab some snacks for later in the evening. Some great options would be cookies, popcorn, donut holes, peanuts, pretzels, macaroons, or even boxes of Asian take-out!

Pastry for the Morning

Instead of a midnight snack, send your guests home with a donut or breakfast pastry for the next morning. Be Sweet Bake Shop or Daylight Donuts will be able to help provide the perfect morning treat for your guests. If you are hosting a brunch the following day, label the box with a reminder of the time and a friendly message such as, "to hold you over until our 11 am brunch hosted at our home."

Custom Coke Bottle

Coca-Cola is not your only option when it comes to custom labeling of drinks but they do have a timeless element. Other beverages that offer custom labeling include Jones Soda, Maker's Mark, or Crown Royal. A spin on this idea would be to self-label your drink bottles or order custom 6-packs.

Nana’s Jam

If getting married in Palisade, personalized jars of Nana's Jam will make a great keepsake for your guests. Nana's Jam utilizes local fruit and is made right in Palisade, Colorado.

Enstrom Toffee and Confectionary is a favorite of Grand Junction locals and chocolate lovers worldwide. Enstrom offers custom packaging for wedding favors.

Local Spirits

Peach Street Distillers is a local favorite with a variety of liquors available. Purchase a variety of their mini bottles and allow guests to take their beverage of choice on the way out. Peach Street Distillers is also a great spot to host your after party!

What favors are you planning on giving out at your wedding? There are so many options to choose from, think about the weddings you have attended and the favors you received. Which favors do you remember? Which favors are in the junk drawer?
