Choosing Bridesmaids' Gifts
Updated: May 6
I often get the question, “How much should I spend on gifts for my bridesmaids?” Unfortunately, this is not a question I can give a straight forward answer to. Purchasing gifts for your bridesmaids is never a requirement so do not feel pressured to do something elaborate if you did not plan the expense into your wedding budget. For many couples, purchasing gifts for their bridesmaids and groomsmen comes toward the end of the wedding planning process after the budget has already been stretched. That being said, a personalized gift from you is a great way to show your appreciation for the ladies (and men) who have stepped up to help actualize your wedding day dreams. My favorite types of bridesmaids (and groomsmen) gifts are those that are either functional, personalized, or wedding specific.
Functional Bridesmaids Gifts
What are the things that you yourself use on a regular basis? Nobody wants to receive nor give a gift that goes unused, so consider giving a gift you know will be useful. I would always opt for quality over quantity for your gifts. Your girls would much rather receive a durable, high-quality travel coffee mug than a gift basket with a cheap graphic mug, even if it does come with a sampler of five different flavored coffee beans. I’ve got you started with a few categories of functional gifts to think about and some ideas for each, keep expanding the lists with your own ideas. If you think of a good one leave it in the comments below for future readers!

Personalized Bridesmaids Gifts
Everyone likes to know they are appreciated. By personalizing your bridesmaids' gifts you are clearly showing that you care, thought ahead, and want to individually recognize each person in your bridal party. To clarify, when I speak of a personalized bridesmaids gift, I am talking about personalizing if for your bridesmaid, not for your wedding. Your friends love you, but they will be much more excited about showing up to the gym personalized with their initials than they will be with one that is emblazoned with your wedding date and insignia.

Being a bridesmaid comes with a lot of added costs. Help lessen the costs for your bridesmaids by purchasing a wedding-day necessity as their bridesmaids' gifts. I especially recommend this if you really want all of your bridesmaids to have the same look in one area, in particular, be it hair or jewelry but would feel unreasonable asking your bridesmaids to pay for it themselves.
